The National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program was created by NASA in 1989. It is now referred to as the Space Grant. It is a national network of colleges and universities aimed at promoting space projects through engineering education, research, and public outreach events.

There are 850 affiliates including schools, museums, science centers, and government agencies. The program’s goal is to, “Contribute to the nation’s science enterprise by funding education, research, and public engagement projects through a national network of university-based Space Grant consortia.” You can read more on their website here. The opportunities afforded to students at one of these colleges are tremendous. They work on very important projects that benefit NASA’s mission and students build invaluable skills. Their objective involves educating, supporting, and promoting the study of space and the careers it has to offer.
