JTS offers students an extremely close-knit Jewish community in the heart of New York City. Students aren’t required to live on campus, but two residence halls are available with a capacity of 156. Each hall has programs, outreach, and a dedicated staff. A nearby dining hall features kosher food, which faculty and staff also enjoy. For students who wish to live off campus, JTS has several one bedroom and studio apartments nearby.

Community service is a large part of JTS, with the Va’ad Gemilut Hasadim at the center, allowing participants to help locally and worldwide. Daily Jewish services are offered as well as Shabbat dinners, celebrations, and more active religious programming. Student activities are available through any one of JTS’s five schools and all are welcome to use Columbia University’s gym. List College also offers Academic/Career counseling, employment services, and health services.

JTS’s library is world renowned for its collection, including rare books and manuscripts. 400,000 circulating volumes and the world’s largest collection of Hebrew manuscripts make up a large number of the available works, but fragments from the Cairo Genizah and archives are also featured in the library.

New York City itself offers plenty of opportunities and places to visit for students, including an extensive culture, dozens of museums, the New York City Library, shopping, history, national landmarks, and more.
