The Public Safety Department is located in the Benjamin West House at Swarthmore College. Open 24/7, the department is responsible for patrols, enforcing policies, crime prevention, security services, emergency response, parking, bike registration, campus shuttles, CCTV, emergency telephones, escorts, ID cards, lockouts, jumpstarts, lost and found, and more.

Swarthmore encourages all students to download the college’s safety app, EmergenSee. In case a student runs into danger, the app can connect to the PSD with live video, audio, and location information.

The department has three directors, a training administrator, two sergeants, two corporals, twelve patrol officers, and six communications officers. The officers also have certification in CPR, standard first aid, automatic external defibrillators, and, in some cases, for more advanced medical emergencies.
