Scholarships for New Media Students

Mary Quon Moy Ing Memorial Scholarship

Amount: Up to $2,000

Deadline: April 21

Funded by The Asian American Journalist Association, the Mary Quon Moy Ing Memorial Scholarship awards up to $2,000 to Asian students who are passionate about careers in the media.

In addition to being of Asian heritage, to qualify for this award, you must demonstrate outstanding journalistic talent and a strong interest in pursuing journalism as a career. Being involved in the community is also a requirement.

The scholarship selects winners based on their commitment to the field of journalism, demonstrated journalistic excellence and financial need. All applicants must commit to the mission of the AAJA.

Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation

Amount: Varies

Deadline: April 1, 2020

The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation dedicates scholarships to both full-time and part-time students. High school and undergraduate students with a 3.0 GPA and in a print or graphic arts-related field should check out this scholarship! Even better, the award renews every year for up to four years.

The James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists

Amount: $2,500

Deadline: TBD for 2020 (Opens July 15, 2020)

The James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists awards various types of assistance to student photographers. Talented and interested students who demonstrate financial need may get assistance in the form of financial funding or it may be in the form of photography equipment.

4 scholarships of $2,500 are awarded to students for outstanding video work, and 1 scholarship of $2,500 is awarded to a student for excellence in still photography. Besides this, 5 students receive a digital camera for an exceptional portfolio of still photographs. The key criteria for assessing the students’ work is that every piece submitted must tell a story.

New York Women in Communications, Inc. Foundation Scholarship Program

Amount: $2,500—$10,000

Deadline: TBD for 2021-2022

New York Women in Communications, Inc. awards 15-20 scholarships every year to students who are looking to pursue careers related to communications. The award amounts range anywhere between $2,500 and $10,000 per award.

Only students who reside in NY, CT, NJ or PA are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Enrolled students in a communications-related program with at least a 3.2 GPA may apply.
