State Grants for Arizona Students

The State of Arizona currently has two financial aid programs available to residents and students. Here’s what you need to know about each and how you can apply for college grants.

Arizona College Grants

Arizona Teacher Student Loan Program

The Arizona Teacher Student Loan Program is a forgivable loan for students who are interested in teaching in the state. The award is need based and goes up to $7,000 per academic year for up to 3 years. Students who enter the program must agree to teach in an Arizona public school for the number of years the loan was received + one additional year. If this condition is not met, the individual has to repay the loan in full.

To qualify, students must:

  • Have been a resident of Arizona for at least a year
  • Be enrolled in a 4-year college at least half-time
  • Be a junior or higher
  • Be studying math, special education, or science or be aiming to teach in certain public schools in the state, including low-income schools
  • Not already have a bachelor’s
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Write an essay with their application
  • Complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Meet certain academic requirements set forth by the college

Arizona Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (AzLEAP)

AzLEAP is dedicated to helping low-income students attend college. Offering need-based grants, students must demonstrate substantial financial need in order to qualify and can be awarded up to $2,500 a year. The average amount a student receives, though, tends to be around $1,000.

A FAFSA is required to apply, and the student must meet academic requirements set forth by the college. Only some Arizona colleges and universities participate in the program, including Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University, Prescott College, and others.
