Department of Education Launches New Mobile FAFSA App

As part of an ambitious redesign of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) the US Department of Education has launched an app that helps students file the FAFSA.

The Official FAFSA App

Known as myStudentAid, the app is designed to make filing the FAFSA as easy and straightforward as possible. Like the FAFSA itself, the app is completely free. The app is slated for future updates and functionalities, but in its initial release is able to help students submit their forms via the myFAFSA tool.

The app’s design is sleek and easy to use. Users are able to see which steps of the federal aid process they’ve completed and which they still need to fill out. Using the touch-pad of the smartphones, users can sign their FAFSA’s right in the app and will get email confirmations when everything is fully submitted.

A Mobile-Friendly Site Redesign

In addition to the app, the US Department of Education also launched a site redesign meant to be mobile-friendly so students and their families can file on the go. The redesign aims to be able to fit the size of any device it’s being viewed on, making for easier reading and navigation.

Redesign Efforts

In addition to giving their form an updated look, making the form and questions more user-friendly, and easing navigation, the redesign wants to raise awareness about the availability federal student aid, and help more students pay for their college education.

The FAFSA for the 2019-2020 school year releases on October 1st.
