Why should I consider taking a Subject Test?

Taking one of these additional tests really shows colleges you’re taking your education seriously. On top of that, it’s a great way to showcase your talents in a particular area of academic interest. If you’re gearing for a certain program at a certain college, then by earning a high score in a relevant testing area you’re really boosting your odds.

Also, colleges can use these scores as consideration for both your application and potential class placements once you’re admitted.

How can I take a Subject Test?

The SAT Subject Tests are offered around six times per year, but not all 20 tests are offered on each of those dates. Some of the tests have very specific dates that they are administered. Additionally, while the Subject Tests are offered on the same testing days and centers as the SAT, you cannot take the SAT and a Subject Test at the same time/on the same date.

Certain tests also require you to bring special materials. For more information on the specifics of each of the Subject Tests—including dates, testing centers, necessary equipment, and more—check out the College Board’s website.
