The University Police Department is in charge of safety and security at UVA. An accredited law enforcement agency, the department has 24 hour patrols and service as well as 160 employees including sworn officers, security officers, and administrative personnel.

The department offers several services to the school including patrols (on foot, bike, and vehicle), self defense classes, violence resources, SafeRide, daily crime logs, crime prevention, safety announcement, and blue light phones.

Students can find the department on campus at 2304 Ivy Road.
