Liberal arts is one of the most popular departments of study when college students choose a major. It includes subjects like English, History, Physics, Sociology, Political Science, Economics, and Statistics, along with many others. If you’re intending to go to college for a liberal arts degree, here are some scholarships you will want to apply for.

Beinecke Scholarship Program

If you intend to go to graduate school after you graduate college, you definitely want to apply to the Beinecke Scholarship Program. The scholarship awards $4,000 just before you attend graduate school and another $30,000 while you’re attending.

To be eligible, you must first be a college junior and intending to either pursue a master’s or doctorate program in liberal arts (arts, humanities, and social sciences). You must also show your academic achievement and personal ability throughout college. It’s important to note that you will only qualify if you demonstrate you have received financial aid that was need-based throughout college. The financial need comes heavily into account when it’s time to select a winner.

Only 125 universities and colleges in the United States are eligible, but up to 20 scholarships will be granted each year. However, to actually apply, you have to get in touch with a contact on your school’s campus.

CRCA Scholarship

If you live in Chicago or the surrounding areas, a liberal arts scholarship you will want to add to the list is the CRCA Scholarship. Granted by the Chicago Roofing Contractors Association, the two awards are for $4,000 and they are renewable each year for three years if you maintain at least a 2.75 GPA.

To apply for the CRCA Scholarship, you must be entering with the intent to major in liberal arts, engineering, business, or architecture. You should be a high school senior, already accepted to a program, and have had an ACT composite score of 29 or higher. If you took the SAT, the score should be the equivalent. Your application should include the form, evaluation sheets, high school transcripts, ACT or SAT results, and a letter of recommendation.

Applications for the CRCA Scholarship are due on March 2nd in 2018.

Bess Whitehead Scott Scholarships

The Bess Whitehead Scott Scholarship is for liberal arts students who are majoring in journalism or a similar subject such as Film or Mass Communication at particular universities in Texas. The scholarship is in honor of Bess Whitehead Scout who lived to be 107 and wrote a book about her life in newspaper reporting.

If you wish to apply for the $2,000 annual award, you should be a junior or senior in college by the next fall. The universities that take part in the scholarship are Baylor, Sam Houston State, Texas A & M, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, University of North Texas, and Texas State. In addition, you should be able to demonstrate financial need.

Applications open on February 1st in 2018 and close on March 25th. Winners will be announced in April.

There are potentially hundreds of scholarships if you intending to major in liberal arts. Online searches are the perfect place to start but you will also want to check with your high school counselor or review your college’s available scholarships.
