Scholarships For Skaters

If you are passionate about skating, whether as a hobby or as a competitive sport, you will find several organizations willing to offer you financial support to help you meet your higher education goals. In the list below, you will find scholarships for a wide variety of skating sports. Additionally, the time you spend browsing through scholarship opportunities and applying for those that you are eligible for is worth it for the amount you could potentially earn towards your college expenses.

The FMC Skaters Scholarship

Amount: Varies

Deadline: May 1, 2020

The FMC Skaters Scholarship offers financial support to high school students who participate in various ice sports, including figure skating, ice hockey, and recreational skating. You must also be a resident of New England to apply for this scholarship.

Applications are assessed based on academic excellence, accomplishments, and leadership on the ice, involvement in the community and extracurricular activities and a 500-word essay highlighting the impact of skating on their life or their overall personal development. Applicants must submit official high school transcripts, SAT or ACT scores, and one recommendation letter from a teacher or coach.

The USA Roller Sports Scholarship

Amount: $1,000; $2,000

Deadline: October 31

The USARS (U.S. Roller Sports Organization) manages and awards the USA Roller Sports Scholarships. It requires applicants to be current members for at least 3 years. It is open for three disciplines of roller skating, including speed skating, figure skating, and hockey.

For speed skating, the applicant can be either an indoor inline or quad nationals participant. Available to any skater who wins a podium finish in any individual race at the National level, the same also stands for figure skating. For ice hockey, any applicant whose team participated in the final medal round at any National Championship is eligible.

Additionally, applicants need to be at least 17 years of age and enrolled in college. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required in the final year of high school. The scholarship amount can be used for tuition, books, dorm fees, lab fees, as well as other college associated expenses.

The Roller Skating Foundation Scholarship

Amount: $2,000; $4,000

Deadline: February 28, 2020

The Roller Skating Foundation of the USA administers the Roller Skating Foundation Scholarship. The scholarship is for employees or children of employees of an RSA skating center or affiliate members. There are two scholarships—one for $4,000 and another for $2,000.

The applicant should be a high school senior at the time of applying with a minimum 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must submit their ACT and SAT scores as well. The applicants also need to submit an essay of about 500-700 words on how skating has affected their lives, their goals for the future and how the scholarship can help them realize those goals. They also need to submit three letters of reference—one each from an RSA member/affiliate, a teacher, and a guidance counselor. The scholarships award those who scored the highest on the Roller Skating Board of Directors’ performance measurement criteria.

U.S. Figure Skating Scholarships

U.S. Figure Skating offers a wide variety of scholarships, ranging from ones based on academic merit to those based on your previous competitions. College Skateboarding Educational Foundation Student Scholarship

Deadline: May 2020

Students passionate about skateboarding will be happy to hear about this opportunity! The College Skateboarding Educational Foundation (CSEF) sponsors a scholarship dedicated to skateboarders. Interested students just need to fill out an application and answer a few short-answer questions.
