$2,500 scholarship winner Amen Martin Obanor has always been captivated by robotics and the possibilities of STEM. Movies and pop culture, including characters like Baymax and WALL-E, helped spark his interest in what robots can do and how engineering can be used to make people’s lives better. He knew his next step was to pursue a degree in STEM. College Raptor helped him discover colleges that aligned with his career goals while also providing matches that fit his financial needs.
Let’s learn more about his journey!
College Raptor: Which College Raptor tool or resource helped you the most during your college search, and why?
Amen: I would definitely say the College Search Tool, especially when you don’t know what college you want to go to yet.
College Raptor: What advice would you give to a student who is just starting the college search process?
Amen: Take it easy. There’s no rush just yet but know what you want to do as a career, how far you want to live away from home, and how much you want to spend.
College Raptor: What does going to college mean to you and your family?
Amen: It means growing into adulthood and starting to look out for yourself. It also means being proud of yourself and how far you have come.
College Raptor: What excites you most about studying robotics engineering and entering the STEM field?
Amen: Learning how to program and build more extravagant and complex robots that can help people physically, mentally, and medically.
College Raptor: You mentioned that you have already started designing and programming your own robotic creations. Can you tell us more about a project or creation you’re particularly proud of?
Amen: My biggest robot kit is four feet tall and took me the longest to build. It was also the first robot kit that I built on my own. I felt accomplished when I finished it, and that’s when I knew this was my calling.
Amen is already putting his passion into action, building his four-foot-tall creation and discovering just how far his interest in robotics can take him. With College Raptor helping him find the right path to pursue STEM, he is now ready to build on what he has created and bring even more innovative ideas to life in the years to come.
Congratulations again, Amen! We wish you all the best as you pursue your passion for robotics engineering and begin your college journey.
