This scholarship awards $1,000 to a Japanese, a Korean, and an American student each year. These scholarships are based on a competitive application and essay outlining how you plan to use the money. Additionally, the organization does not limit the award to just study abroad. You can work, volunteer, study, or whatever activity you want. As a result, the organization chooses the most promising candidate.

Bridging Scholarships

Amount: $2,500 / $4,000

Deadline: April 10, 2020

The organization awards these scholarships to American students studying abroad in Japan. Overall, they give out around 100 scholarships per year to deserving students. Generally, applications are accepted two times throughout the year. The amount awarded is $2,500 for semester-long programs and $4,000 for academic year programs.

Department of Education Scholarship for Programs in China

Amount: $500-8,000

Deadline: April 1 (Summer and Fall); October 15 (Winter and Spring)

The Department of Education offers several scholarships ranging from $500-8,000 to study abroad with a CIEE program. For example, Peking University in Bejing, Nanjing University, East China Normal University in Shanghai, and National Chengchi University in Taipei. Eligibility varies. Generally, the organization evaluates applicants based on financial need, merit, and language experience.

Freeman Asia

Freeman Asia is a scholarship funded by a private foundation in Honolulu, HI. It provides financial assistance to financially needy students who wish to study abroad in one of 15 Asian countries for a minimum of eight weeks. However, preference is given to students who have not traveled to their chosen country before.

Morgan Stanley Scholarships in Japan

Amount: $7,500
