Scholarships for Students Interested in the Fashion Industry

Fashion is an integral part of our lives. From the glitzy Oscars red carpet shows, to New York Fashion Week, to everyday clothing, as well as affordable trends. Fashion and retail are booming businesses that also draws many creative talents and passionate people. Here are a few fabulous scholarships for students interested in design and/or fashion merchandising.

FIDM National Scholarship Competition

Amount: One full-year tuition

Deadline: March 2, 2020

The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising offers students the chance at a full year’s worth of scholarship money. The competition requires students to submit a creative project in one of seven categories. That also includes Fashion Designer of Tomorrow and Trend Forecaster of Tomorrow.

To be considered, the student must be a US citizen or permanent resident, pay a few application fees, as well as follow the competition guidelines.

In an effort to encourage bright and innovative students to pursue a career in the fashion industry—whether in design, management, marketing, consumer science, or other related fields—YMA offers this scholarship to bright and creative students.

Students must be a college freshman, sophomore, junior, or non-fall-graduating senior, and have at least a 3.2 GPA. Along with the scholarship, winners also receive mentorships, an invitation to the FSF Awards Gala, and internship and job opportunities.

#LiveLikeLyly Memorial Scholarships

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: May 2020

These scholarships honor the life of Lyly Koenig Mendez, a graphic and fashion designer who passed away after a long battle with breast cancer. The scholarship targets students of Asian and/or Pacific Islander descent pursuing a degree in fashion or graphic design.

To be eligible, students must be at least 50% Asian and/or Pacific Islander, a high school senior or current full-time college student, demonstrate leadership, and submit a contest entry.
