Scholarships for Catholic Students

On average, millions of dollars in scholarships available for college-bound students out there. Specifically, students who are among the 50 million Catholics in the U.S. Some Catholic scholarships want students who are actively practicing and heavily involved in their religion. On the other hand, some Catholic scholarships are more open–requiring only that a student identifies as Catholic.

1. Catholic United Financial Post-High School Tuition Scholarship

Amount: $500

Deadline: April 30, 2020

Catholic United opens its scholarship to members entering college or a trade program. College freshmen going into their second year may also apply.

The organization grants the $500 award based on involvement in Catholic United as well as other community service projects.

2. Italian Catholic Federation First Year Scholarship

Amount: $500

Deadline: March 15, 2020

This $500 award is for students who are practicing Roman Catholics and of Italian descent.

Additionally, the scholarship is open to students living in California, Arizona, Nevada, or Illinois. Eligible students must have at least a 3.2 GPA. Winners are chosen based on their financial need, academic achievement, as well as leadership experience.

Even better, first-year scholarship winners can also receive subsequent second-, third-, and fourth-year awards.

3. John W. McDevitt (Fourth Degree) Scholarship

Amount: $1,500

Deadline: March 1

Are either of your parents are a member of the Knights of Columbus? Do you also plan to attend a Catholic college or university? If so, you can qualify for this $1,500 annual scholarship.

More than 20 awards are given each year based on academic merit.

4. Lucile Murray Durkin Scholarship

Amount: $2,000

Deadline: April 29, 2020

The Lucile Murray Durkin Scholarship For Women Discerning Priestly Ordination primarily targets women and nonbinary undergraduate and graduate students who want to be an ordained Catholic priest, though the scholarship is open to those seeking ordination in any denomination.

To apply, students must submit a 2,000 to 2,500-word essay answering one or more of the prompts given, as well as two letters of recommendation.

5. Del Papa-Grimaldi-Gabriele Endowment Fund Scholarship

Amount: Up to $2,000

Deadline: June 15, 2020

If you live in the Archdiocese of Detroit, consider applying to the Del Papa-Grimaldi-Gabriele Endowment Fund Scholarship. Both high school seniors and college freshmen can apply for this award, which gives up to $2,000 to a student who needs financial support.

6. W.K. Robinson Scholarship

Amount: $500

Deadline: February 29, 2020

Students of all faiths are eligible to receive this $500 scholarship. However, they must be a current senior. Additionally, they need to demonstrate their active involvement in a faith-based institution.

In order to qualify, students must submit a 500-word essay and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

7. Catholic Community Foundation Scholarships

Amount: Varies

Deadline: Varies

The Catholic Community Foundation offers multiple scholarships to college-bound Catholic students or students already enrolled in college. From scholarships specific to STEM or the humanities, to a nursing scholarship, the Catholic Community Foundation likely offers a scholarship that you may be interested in.
