Following a detailed review process, College Raptor selected Phuongthao Le Hoang from Hall High School in West Hartford, CT as the inaugural winner.

After receiving the official notification about being chosen as the winner, Phuongthao had this to share, “I did not fully comprehend that I got the scholarship until two days after I received the email. Only then did gratitude, relief, and joy warm my heart. This scholarship will reduce the stress on both myself and my family. Because of the generosity of College Raptor, I am $2,500 closer to staying focused on my studies.”

College Raptor helps students and families discover great college matches and brings cost transparency to the search process. “I felt alone in the college application process until the career center introduced me to College Raptor so I could find schools that fit what I wanted,” said Phuongthao. “It offered me comparisons of estimated financial aid packages, simplified campus match scores, and admission chances that I was not finding on other resources. College Raptor is the reason that I applied to Brown.”

Not only did College Raptor find Ms. Hoang impressive, but so did Brown University, where she has chosen to enroll this fall. While on the Providence, RI campus, she plans to major in Neuroscience and participate in activities including the Global Health Initiative study abroad program, Medicine in Action Program, and continuing her passion for slam poetry. Phuongthao’s career ambition is to heighten awareness of mental health issues as a social advocate and professionally as a psychiatrist.

“This is an exciting time for our company and our mission. With this scholarship program, we are encouraging students to capitalize on opportunities they may not have known existed. Ms. Hoang is a shining example. College Raptor is honored to provide this scholarship to Phuongthao, and we are eager to see what she will achieve at Brown University and beyond.” says William Staib, CEO and co-founder of College Raptor.
