College Raptor Account Guide

Students are able to create free College Raptor accounts that enable them save their profile and college match search.

Students can either create an account manually or choose to sign up using their Facebook, Google, or Twitter accounts. After completing the initial setup, users will be asked to select their “User Type”. Students should select “Student” and then select their current high school and their anticipated graduation year.

If the student’s high school is not listed, or they are homeschooled, they can select “Other or homeschooled” from the list of available high schools.

Both school and independent counselors can create “Counselor” accounts on College Raptor, which will allow them to be linked to “Student” accounts to view and edit that student’s profile.

To sign up, counselors can either create an account manually or sign up using their Facebook, Google, or Twitter account. After signing up, counselors can select “Counselor” as their “User Type” and then select their high school.

Independent counselors should also select “Counselor” as their “User Type” and then select “Other or homeschooled” from the list of available high schools.

"Counselor Administrators" are specially designated accounts assigned to each high school. At least one "Counselor Administrator" must be set up in order for individual school counselors to be verified.

"Counselor Administrators" will have sole access to their school’s verification code, which they can provide to counselors to allow them to become verified at that school.

In addition, these counselors will have the ability to disable verified counselors in the event that they are no longer employed with their verified school.

School counselors will need to be verified before they can be linked to "Student" accounts. This verification process is a simple one that protects students from adding users to their account who may be posing or imitating legitimate counselors.

Independent and non-school counselors should create an account by selecting the “Counselor” User Type during the registration process, and then selecting “Other or homeschooled” from the list of available high schools.

Once the account is created, counselors do not need to be verified. Instead, they can be added manually from the student’s “Manage Team Members” screen using the email address associated with the counselor’s College Raptor account.

Students can add school counselors and other team members to their account from the “Manage Team Members” screen. If they attend a high school that has verified school counselors, they will be able to add any or all of these verified school counselors with a single click.

Students can add unverified or independent counselors using their email address.

Counselors can see and manage students who have been linked to their account from the “Manage Students” screen.

On this page, counselors will be able to see a list of students and click “View Profile” to see the student’s profile and list of college matches.

While viewing a student’s profile, counselors will navigate the College Raptor as if they were that student. They will have access to their list of college matches, majors, and other profile information. They can also add or remove colleges from the student’s list of preferred schools, or update their college match profile.

To stop viewing a student’s profile and return to their own profile, the counselor can click the black “X” button on the upper-right side of any screen.

Parent accounts can be created by selecting the “Parent” User Type during the account creation process.

These accounts can be linked to student accounts manually, using the email address associated with the parent account, by clicking the “Add Parent” link from the “Manage Team Members” screen.

Parent accounts linked to student accounts will receive an email confirmation, which they will need to accept before being linked to the student account.

Users who are not a parents/guardians, counselors, or students can select “Other” as a User Type during the account creation process.

These accounts do not serve any specific purpose, but can be used by any user that does not fall into the three other roles. These accounts can also be linked to student accounts manually from the student’s “Manage Team Members” screen.
