Whether you just don’t enjoy science or it’s not your best subject, you may be dreading the science section on the ACT. However, if you’re taking this exam, you still need to prepare for this subject. Here are ways you can prep for some ACT science questions even if it’s not your favorite class.

Practice with a Friend

Studying a subject you have trouble with can get frustrating when you’re doing it alone and it can be easy to give up. You may just put the paperwork away rather than keeping on top of your prep. If you’re studying with a friend though, they can help keep you on task. In turn, you may be able to help them with their weaker areas.

If you prep for the ACT science section with a friend, you can keep studying interesting. You can come up with games or study tactics that will keep studying science fresh and engaging.

Try Practicing A Different Way

Sometimes, when a subject just isn’t making sense to you or it doesn’t sound enjoyable, it could be you need to learn the subject a different way. Everyone learns differently and science is no exception to this rule. If you don’t like the way your teacher is teaching it, try watching YouTube videos instead. There are plenty of tutorials available on the video-sharing site regarding ACT prep.

You may also want to check out other resources available online or talk to a previous teacher you enjoyed having. They may be willing to tutor you after school. It doesn’t hurt to ask.

Get Creative

In the same vein of practicing a different way, getting creative with science can help you grasp the solutions to ACT questions a bit easier. Try creating charts or graphs with the information you’re trying to learn or draw pictures to help you remember how to do particular problems.

Use The Same Prep Techniques You’re Using For Other Subjects

The science section of the ACT will call on many of the same techniques you’ll need for other sections, including reading and math. By studying for these, you can help prepare for the science questions. Reading comprehension and equations will come in handy for this section.

This is why it’s important to practice for the overall exam rather than just the science questions. However, you absolutely want to give your weaker areas of the ACT more attention to ensure you’re properly prepared for the entire test.

If you’ve tried other techniques and enlisted the help of your teachers or friends and are still not confident when it comes to the ACT science section, you may want to consider taking the SAT instead. The SAT doesn’t have a science section, but you will want to weigh the overall pros and cons of each test before deciding which one is best for you. If you’re set on the ACT though, these techniques can help you be prepared even if science isn’t quite your favorite subject.
