Here are some colleges with good food

Who doesn’t love good food? Sure, we need it to survive, but there are some of us out there who yearn to explore all sorts of different foods. Thankfully, there are plenty of college towns out there (and college campuses) who happily cater to our needs. Here’s just a small list of colleges with good food to get you started.

Mills College – Oakland, California

If you’re into exciting food, Mills College has the just the thing for you. Café Bon Appetit lives on campus to entertain the students with new, creative ways of looking at food. They have gluten-free and vegan options ready to go for anyone needing an ingredient substituted. In addition, you can research their treatment of the animals that do end up on your plate here. Additionally, Hella Vegan Eats in Oakland offers a great getaway for anyone looking for a sweet treat and brunch.

DePaul University – Chicago, Illinois

We’ve all heard about Chicago’s famous deep-dish pizzas (try talking to anyone from Chicago or the surrounding suburbs and I can guarantee they will have an opinion on which deep-dish pizza place is the best). There is so much more to Chicago than pizza, as the students of DePaul can likely attest. Culturally diverse restaurants are within easy reach: Japanese, Italian, Mexican, Chinese, and many others lie within a half-mile of campus. Of course, the dining halls at DePaul are also striving to maintain healthy menus for students on campus. Vegetarian and vegan options are available.

Seattle University – Seattle, Washington

Seattle is well-known for its progressive and hipster-ish culture, and that extends to the food. While being the birthplace of Starbucks is enough to draw the coffee addicts, the various foods you can find in a single block is amazing. Cafes, pubs, bars, bistros, Thai food, gluten-free restaurants, pie shops: You name it, they probably have it close by. And of course, the staples are there too, such as Subway, IHOP (where else can you get pancakes at 2 am?), and the aforementioned Starbucks. But don’t forget Nate’s Wings and Waffles!

Bowdoin College – Brunswick, Maine

Main Street in Brunswick is packed full of culturally diverse restaurants, enough to make any adventurous foodie salivate just thinking about it. For those healthy foodies out there, you might be more interested in Bowdoin’s Organic Garden. The garden was planted in 2005, and students are allowed to walk through it (it has flowers as well as food) to enjoy the experience. There’s even an on-campus butcher! Students have the opportunity to work in the garden as well, giving them even more appreciation for the dining hall food.

University of Georgia – Athens, Georgia

The Five & Ten restaurant is home to Hugh Acheson (if you’ve watched the Food Network, you’ve probably seen him on a judge’s panel or two). This restaurant’s menu changes daily, always inspired by southern food. The Cuban-flavored Cali-n-Tito’s is an undergraduate favorite. There’s a slew of other choices, so you don’t risk getting bored while you’re at school!
