We recently talked about some of the “official” scholarships for Eagle Scouts, but there are many more across the country, including maybe right in your hometown. Here are some of the others you may want to consider applying to if you’re a Boy Scout or Eagle Scout.
Eagle Scout of the Year
Amount: $2,000 — $10,000
Deadline: March 1, 2020
Every year, the American Legion selects one Eagle Scout of the Year for their scholarship, along with 3 runner ups. The top prize carries a $10,000 scholarship, while the 3 runner ups will receive $2,500 each. To be eligible, you must currently be an active Boy Scout, received the rank of Eagle, be 15 years or older, been an active member in your community, be an active member in your religion, and earned a Boy Scout religious emblem. If you win the award before graduating high school, you will receive the money upon graduation.
To apply, Eagle Scouts should submit the nomination form to their American Legion State Headquarters, rather than national headquarters.
If you’re interested in applying to be named the Eagle Scout of the Year, you can find more information on the American Legion website. If you have a sister, relative, or friend who is in the Girl Scouts, there are scholarships for them through the American Legion as well.
Frank D. Visceglia Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: June 1
If you’re an Eagle Scout in the state of New Jersey, you may also want to check out the Frank D. Visceglia Memorial Scholarship. The award is supported by The National Association of Industrial and Office Parks and the Association for Commercial Real Estate and hopes to promote a balance between the environment and economy.
Awarding $1,000, applicants who have taken part in projects centering on the economy or the environment will be given preference. You will also have to be attending or planning to attend a 4-year college to qualify for the scholarship.
Cascade Pacific Council Eagle Scout Scholarships
Amount: $2,000 — $4,500
Deadline: Varies
Awarding 10 scholarships each year, if you live in the Northwest of the United States, you definitely want to check out the Cascade Pacific Council Eagle Scout Scholarships if you’re an Eagle Scout. The top award gives $4,500, with the other 9 granting $2,000.
To be eligible, you must reside in the northwest (the Cascade Pacific Council area), be a high school senior, and have maintained a 3.0 average. You must have also distinguished yourself when it comes to Scout Order and Scout Law. If you currently live in the Cascade Pacific Council area but earned your rank elsewhere in the country, you can still apply for the award.
If you don’t live in the northwest area, you will want to check with your local council, as many offer their own scholarships for Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts.
These are only a few of the scholarships available to Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts across the country. Checking with your local troop is one of the best steps you can take to seeing what opportunities are available to you in your area.
