Scholarships For Aerospace Engineering Students

With the marked increase in air travel, and more recently, private space exploration, the field of aerospace engineering is garnering more interest than ever before. However, pursuing a career in this field can take years of advanced study. If you are passionate about engineering and more specifically the development, design and manufacture of aircraft, spacecraft and allied equipment, scholarships can be a great way to fund your education.

Listed below are a few aerospace engineering scholarships:

The Kia Motors America, Inc. STEAM Scholarship

Amount: $3,400

Deadline: May 29, 2020

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) sponsors the Kia Motors Americ, Inc. STEAM Scholarship. They strive to equip the best Latino students with the funds to graduate and make their mark in society through internships, scholarships and leadership training.

Students currently enrolled in a HACU-member college or university may apply. Additionally, they must have at least a 3.0 GPA and major in one of the fields listed on the website.

University of North Dakota Aerospace Scholarships

John D. Odegard School Of Aerospace Sciences at the University of North Dakota has established multiple Aerospace Scholarships to support students enrolled in majors related to aerospace and aviation. Each scholarship has different criteria specified by their individual sponsors. Common requirements for all UND Aerospace scholarship opportunities include academic merit, flight achievement, and leadership skills.

The North Dakota Space Grant Consortium Undergraduate Scholarship is offered to students pursuing STEM degrees that are related to NASA research.

The Pearl I. Young Space Grant Scholarship and Lillian Goettler Scholarship are two different scholarships awarded to female students enrolled in the university and majoring in a STEM field. Applicants must have a 3.5 GPA minimum and must actively participate in a research project related to NASA.

The American Indian Scholarship awards 5 scholarships of $2,500 each to Native American students attending 5 tribal colleges in North Dakota. Applicants must want to pursue advanced education in a STEM field. Winners must commit to attending North Dakota State University or the University of North Dakota and pursuing a STEM degree at either of these institutions after their graduation.

Oregon Space Grant Consortium Scholarship and Fellowship Program

Amount: $1,000; $3,000; $5,000

Deadline: June 19, 2020

The Oregon NASA Space Grant Consortium offers generous scholarship awards to support the academic pursuits of eligible students enrolled in the organizations’ member universities and colleges.

Students currently enrolled in a STEM-related program and maintained good academic standing may apply. Your application must include a letter of recommendation highlighting your qualifications for this award. You also need a 1-page essay explaining your interest in STEM or how your academic interests relate to the NASA vision.

The American Association of Blacks in Energy Scholarship

Amount: $5,000

Deadline: May 15, 2020

The American Association of Blacks in Energy is an association that works towards increasing the number of African-Americans, Native Americans, and Hispanics in energy-related fields, which includes aerospace engineering. This scholarship offers a sum of $5,000 to winning applicants.

To apply for this scholarship, you must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be a graduating senior with an intention to enroll in an accredited university or college. You should also demonstrate intent to major in technology, engineering, physical sciences or mathematics with the aim of working in the energy sector. Eligibility may vary based on the chapter of the association in various areas.

Vicki and George Muellner Scholarship for Aerospace Engineering

Amount: $5,000

Deadline: TBD for 2020 (Opens October 2020)

The Vicki and George Muellner Scholarship for Aerospace Engineering is funded by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). You must be an AIAA member to apply. Additionally, you must be a full-time student enrolled in a program that qualifies you to enter the aeronautic industry. You must also maintain a minimum 3.3 GPA. Your application must be accompanied by three letters of recommendation and a 500-1000 word essay highlighting your career objectives. Proof of participation in extracurricular or activities, community involvement or work experience will boost your chances of winning.
