There are a number of noble reasons to live a vegan lifestyle—whether it’s health benefits, animal rights, eco-friendly sustainable living, or something else. Luckily for vegan students, there are a few scholarships dedicated to funding part of their higher education!
Amount: Up to $3,500
Offered by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), this award is for New England students who are dedicated to the humane treatment of animals. Students who demonstrate direct action, leadership, and awareness on behalf of animal rights are eligible to apply, regardless of financial need or academic records.
The application should include a description of what the student has done to promote animal welfare and protection (ie: speeches, demonstrations, volunteering at shelters, leading a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle, etc.).
Amount: $5,000; $10,000
VRG offers scholarships to students who have worked to promote vegetarianism and/or veganism in their schools and community. Applicants are judged on their dedication and compassion in regards to their vegetarian/vegan lifestyle, and are asked to write an essay on one of the themed topics outlined on their site.
To apply, students must submit a high school transcript, documentation of their promotion efforts, and the essay.
Amount: Up to full tuition
At the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, a hefty scholarship fund is set up to assist students who are studying nutrition or other fields that can relate to fostering vegetarian lifestyles. Preference will be given to full-time graduate students, but can also be awarded to undergraduates.
Interested students must be attending the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, be in a relevant field, be full-time, and can apply online.
