The 10 Best Scholarships for Christian Students

There are many scholarships available through religious organizations. These can come from the colleges themselves, or your local church.

The scholarships discussed on this list do not include local-level church scholarships, so be sure to ask your pastor if there are any award opportunities in your area or through your church.

1. Colorado Christian Scripture Memory Scholarships

Amount: Varies

Deadline: Contact Financial Aid Office

These scholarships are awarded to students who can memorize an entire book of the Bible at Colorado Christian University. The scholarship aims to benefit Christian students’ finances and faith. Students must then recite their chosen book in front of two witnesses.

Depending on the book, the award varies. Options include: Matthew ($4,400), Mark ($2,800), Luke ($4,800), John ($3,500), Acts ($4,500), Romans ($1,800), Ephesians ($600), or Hebrews ($1,300).

2. Christian Ministries Dependent Grant

Amount: $1,000 – $18,000

Deadline: Varies

Roberts Wesleyan College has nice variety of scholarships for Christian students. From merit scholarships to needs based scholarships and even scholarships for those considering transferring to Roberts Wesleyan College. The school offers the Christian Ministries Dependent Grant to transfer students whose parents work full-time in a Christian service.

3. Young Christian Leaders Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: 15th of each month

To be eligible for this award, high school seniors or college students must be an active member of their local church. In addition, the student must receive at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the previous semester’s GPA.

This scholarship is for permanent residents of New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut–but you may be attending school anywhere.

4. Samuel Robinson Award

Amount: Up to $4,000

Deadline: June 1, September 1, and December 1

This scholarship is for Presbyterian students who are also attending Presbyterian related colleges and universities. Each year, 25 to 30 students receive this scholarship with an opportunity to renew each year as long as they maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above.

5. Presbyterian Student Opportunity Scholarship

Amount: Up to $4,000

Deadline: May 15, 2020

This scholarship awards 80 students each year. It is a need-based award, granted to first-time, full-time sophomores, juniors, and seniors in college.

Applicants must complete a series of essay questions, then discuss them with peers or a mentor. The application does state that preference will be given to racial/ethnic students to promote diversity.

6. American Baptist Financial Aid Program

Amount: Varies

Deadline: April 30

In order to be eligible for this award, students must be active members of an American Baptist church for at least one year and are also preparing to enter an accredited institution in the U.S. as a full-time freshman in the fall. This award is renewable for those who maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA.

7. United Methodist GBHEM General Scholarships

Amount: Varies

Deadline: Varies

Every year, 13 high school seniors entering college receive awards this scholarship. Students must be an active full-time member of the United Methodist Church for one full year (or 3 years for international students). In order to be eligible, you must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and also be attending an accredited U.S. institution in the fall.

8. AbleLight Auxiliary Scholarships

Amount: $3,000 – $20,000

Deadline: May 15, 2020

The AbleLight Auxiliary (Fromerly the Bethesda Auxillary) is a network of people brought together to provide spiritual and financial support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They offer a variety of scholarships to Christian students who are pursuing a career in a disability related field.

For Seminarian or post-graduate students, you must be an active member of a Lutheran congregation, a senior already accepted into a seminary program, or a first- or second-year in a seminary program.

For college or university students, you must be an active member of a Lutheran congregation, a junior or senior, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

9. Ruth K. Jacobs Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $1,500

Deadline: Not being offered this year, but Choristers Guild hopes to offer it next year. Please check back

Applicants must be juniors or seniors in college or graduate students majoring in music and are also interested in working with children and youth music ministries. Scholarships are granted based on academic merit, interest in church music, and church music ministry as a vocation.

10. W.K. Robinson Scholarship

Amount: $500

Deadline: February of each year

Eligibility requirements for this award include enrollment as a high school senior, current and active member of a faith-based institution, 3 references, acceptance to an accredited college or university, minimum 3.0 GPA, community involvement, and also a 500-word essay.
