Joel Roger Wayne Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: March 13, 2020

Awarded by the University of Colorado in Boulder, the Joel Roger Wayne Scholarship was funded to help students who are part of the LGBTQ+ community but had been cut off financially from their parents due to their sexual orientation. The award grants $1,000 each school year to the winner.

Although the scholarship began to ensure those who are LGBTQ+ could attend school, the award is not dependent on whether or not your family has offered financial support. Instead, it is based on financial need.

In order to apply, students should visit the University of Colorado’s website. The school has several scholarships dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community in addition to the Joel Roger Wayne Scholarship.

These scholarships should give you a strong base for your award search if you are a part of the LGBTQ+ community. To find more, head to scholarship databases. When you sign up, many will ask about you, your interests, and your academic record to ensure they’re returning search results and awards that you could qualify for. If you need further help, make sure to talk to your high school counselor, college’s financial aid office, or a local LGBTQ+ community center. Finally, there’s no such thing as applying for too many scholarships!
