The Summer Before Senior Year
Working on the college application essay can be one of the more challenging aspects of the college application process. Starting on your essay during the summer before senior year will give you plenty of time to think about what topic you should choose for your essay, work on the first draft and keep editing and tweaking it till you are 100% ready with the way it has turned out.
This is also the right time to start thinking about which teachers you are going to request to write your letter of recommendation.
From October to January
Start on college applications in October. Begin by making a list of colleges you are applying to and the requirements for each college. Keep referring to the list when putting together your application to make sure you have adhered to all the instructions.
If applying early action or early decision, you will need to get your application ready to submit by November. For regular admissions, you have till about the end of December or the beginning of Jan to submit your application. Rolling admissions generally accept applications year-round.
