Getting any fees waived towards your college education can be a bonus. When planning for college and adding up the thousands of dollars it costs, anything you can get for free is a welcome relief. These are the two main college fees that you can get waived.

Test Waivers

Let’s start with the SAT. You may qualify for a fee waiver for the registration of up to two SAT tests if you participate in the free lunch program at school, you are a ward of the state, or your family receives public assistance.

The ACT has a similar program but with different qualifying criteria. You may qualify for an ACT fee waiver if you are a junior or senior U.S. citizen and you meet their financial need requirements.

Application Fee Waivers

Did you qualify for the ACT or SAT fee waiver? If you did, then you are eligible for college application fee waivers as well. There are over 2,000 colleges that participate in this program, and students who received the test waiver may also receive up to four application waivers.

Even if you have your heart set on one college, it is advisable to use all four application waivers and apply to your second, third, and fourth choice colleges. It will cost you nothing and it’s nice to know that you have a few solid alternatives just in case.

Every little bit counts towards reducing your college tuition fees. Check out the requirements for fee waivers, see if you qualify, and take advantage of free wherever you can.
