6 Scholarships for Pharmacy School

When sickness rears its ugly head, pharmacists are there to answer the call for help. By dispensing medication and working with other healthcare professionals, pharmacists get people feeling better and back on their feet. The world needs pharmacists and so several pharmacy scholarships have been founded in order to provide financial aid to the next generation–here are just a few opportunities available.

APhA Student Scholarship Program

Amount: $3,000 (renewable)

Deadline: December 1, 2020 (opens September 2020)

This scholarship targets full-time students who have completed at least one academic year in a pharmacy program. Students also must dedicate their time to their school’s APhA – Academy of Student Pharmacists chapter. This renewable scholarship is a great source of aid.

To be eligible, students must be active members of their APhA – ASP chapter, have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher, submit two letters of recommendation, and also write a 500-word essay.

Express Script Scholars Program

Amount: Up to $10,000 ($2,500 per semester)

Deadline: TBD

This scholarship awards promising students working towards a dual degree in pharmacy-related fields. The AACP’s provides financial aid to students with diverse interests.

To apply, students: must be enrolled in a dual-degree program, be enrolled at an ACPE-accredited college/university, and also write an essay describing why they want to be accepted into the program and what their career goals are.

Health Resources and Services Administration Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students

Amount: Varies

Deadline: March 3, 2020

This scholarship focuses on equality in the field of healthcare. Offered to medically disadvantaged students who are pursuing a degree in fields related to: medicine, pharmacy, nursing, public health, chiropractics, allied health, and others.

Eligible students: are from a disadvantaged background (as defined by the US Department of Health and Human Services), are a citizen or permanent resident of the US, and are also enrolled in an accredited college/university.

TYLENOL Future Care Scholarship Program

Amount: $500-$2,500, $5,000, or $10,000

Deadline: July 30, 2020

Tylenol wants to support future healthcare providers by offering numerous scholarships to academically excellent students. Awarded to students involved in their community, these scholarships provide aid to those studying a healthcare-related major.

To apply to this scholarship, students must: be a resident of the US (Puerto Rico and DC included), if an undergrad the student has completed at least one academic year, if a grad student provides proof of enrollment, and also enrolled in an accredited college/university.

Walmart Pharmacy Scholars Program

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: TBD for 2021

AACP and Walmart want future pharmacists well-prepared and equipped to enter the field. Students in this program receive financial aid in order to attend two AACP seminars with a teacher.

To be eligible, students must: be either a graduate student, professional (doctoral) student, resident, or fellow, be preparing for a career in a pharmaceutical field, submit a letter of recommendation, and also write an essay.

CVS Health Minority Scholarship for Pharmacy Students

Amount: $8,000

Deadline: July 1, 2020

Started in 2019, the CVS Health Minority Scholarship for Pharmacy Students gives out five scholarships to underrepresented students. Students must show academic and leadership qualities, as well as a commitment to pharmaceuticals or patient-care.

Eligible students: have either been accepted or are currently in a PharmD program, at least a 3.0 GPA, and two letters of recommendation.
