5 Scholarships for Biology Majors

While biology may seem simple (I mean, it is just the study of life) it encompasses a broad range of sciences. With many different concentrations in biology, students pursuing a degree in it have a variety of careers to choose from. Not to mention, there are plenty of sub-fields in biology that students can focus on while in college. Society’s advancement heavily relies on biology and other similar sciences; there are many biology scholarships out there to support students in STEM fields. Here are a few biology scholarships you may be eligible for.

AAIA Elizabeth and Sherman Asche Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $1,500

Deadline: June 30, 2020 (Opens May 15, 2020)

In order to qualify for this scholarship, students must be at least one-quarter degree Native American/Native Alaskan and majoring in a science or public health field. The student also needs to be a member of a federally-recognized tribe. Students can be high school seniors heading to college, current undergraduates, graduate students, or doctoral students.

UNCF STEM Scholars Program

Amount: Up to $30,000

Deadline: April 3, 2020

This scholarship awards African-American students currently in high school and already enrolled in college for the fall semester. Students must show that they plan on majoring in a STEM field, such as biology, and have at least a 3.0 GPA.

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: June 30, 2020

This scholarship targets high school seniors planning on going to a four-year U.S. institution, or an already enrolled full-time student. A full-time student takes at least 12 credit hours or more per semester. The student must have at least a 3.0 GPA and needs to demonstrate a passion for STEM fields through submitting answers to five questions.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Antibody Scholarship Program

Amount: Up to $10,000

Deadline: May 5, 2020

The scholarship looks for already enrolled students in a U.S. college or university for the upcoming semester, as well as majoring in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related life science field. The applicant must also have at least a 3.0 GPA.

National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship Program

Amount: Up to $20,000 per academic year

Deadline: March 18, 2020

The National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship Program targets disadvantaged students who want to pursue a career in biomedical research. Along with the scholarship, the winner must also commit to a summer internship and at least a year of full-time work at the National Institutes of Health after graduation. Applicants must be enrolled in a college and have at least a 3.3 GPA.

Generally, there are plenty of biology scholarships out there for you to apply for. There’s also no such thing as applying for too many scholarships, as long as you meet all the requirements.
